What Do Seniors Do When They Go Online?

Seniors behavior online has some compelling implications for nonproifts, according to Michael Stoner in his article "Aging Digitally". One characteristic of seniors is they often have more time to enjoy themselves and expand their horizons than many others. This, combined with their desire to stay in touch with family and friends, means that many seniors are intense users of email. There is also a strong appeal of being able to shop and access information from home, especially for those who have limited mobility. (See www.netgrocer.com)

Other cybersenior activities:

  • research for writing memoirs
  • monitoring investments. Experience shows that seniors who spend considerable time monitoring their financial portfolio are more typically dependent upon investment income, rather than high-income earners
  • tracking genealogy some start post-retirement businesses
  • perform legal, medical, long-term care, housing, travel and recreation research
